ARTIST-RUN PROJECT OISEAUX MIGRATEURS (OM): GROUP EXHIBITION

Migratory birds : Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Emilie Bitauld is the coordinator & founder of the Migratory Birds (Oiseaux Migrateurs = OM) project. Through a Carte blanche, she invites other artists to present a piece on the theme of Migrations.

“This double work of artist and curator addresses the subjects of intangible heritage and collective memory, areas on which I have worked for years in public or associative institutions, from international to local.

Therefore, this project allows me to reconcile the two main professions on both sides of the cultural mirror by enriching the cultures embedded between them. A connected reference to the Migratory Birds exhibition would be Jeremy Deller for his relationship of the heritage of popular culture, Merlin Carpenter, the English and American appropriationists, or for the social-anthropological aspect, the Canadian Kapwani Kiwanga. In the tradition of Kader Attia and his Colony, I would like to participate in a federation encompassing the idea of the decolonization of art.”

The “Migratory birds” theme can be about a lot of things :

Artists migrating in the name formation and work opportunities along History, human beings in general (Boat people, refugees…) or actual birds ; Those gracious and various animals are sometimes completely stopping their migrations because climate changes now allows them to stay in countries that they used to have to leave at colder seasons… This fact too often means that the food chain, all along their historical roads, is simply destroyed from the top. Speaking about the top, the idea of this group show partly came to Emilie Bitauld while she was working with a wild life ranger of the Alps summits of Switzerland (Gstaadt), where many species (like the Lynx) are close to extinction.
